We found Klaus the way so many good things happen these days - through Instagram. But from the very first conversation, we knew this was different. There was something about his calm, his positivity, and the seriousness with which he talked about his work that just clicked with us.

Klaus is someone who knows exactly what he wants and exactly how he wants to do it. That kind of clarity is rare, and quite magnetic.

His love for food started where the best stories always do - in his mother's kitchen. He spent years by her side, watching, absorbing, learning without even realising he was learning. As he grew older, that curiosity turned into a deeper exploration of flavour, both the familiar and the unexpected. And somewhere along the way, one truth became impossible to ignore: great food comes down to two things: the best ingredients you can find, and a generous amount of love.

In 2023, Klaus opened Islandpearls Madeira and finally made real what had been a lifelong dream. He uses high-quality, seasonal, locally-sourced fruits and vegetables, preserved in a way that means you can enjoy them year-round, without a preservative, artificial colour, or additive in sight.
